Worthington fifth-grader Matt Woodrum, the subject of this inspiring video that went viral this week, finished his field-day 400-meter dash despite his cerebral palsy.
His mom said she wasn’t surprised to see him finish the race.
“But when the kids came to join him, that was the real moment of inspiration that obviously made me and everybody cry,” she said. “Seeing him through to the end and cheering his name was just a priceless moment.”
Three (or more) cheers for determination.
Matt Woodrum deserves a medal… or maybe a made-for-TV movie.
From the article:
Matt’s gym teacher, John Blaine, said his run wasn’t about crossing the finish line. Rather, the important thing is that Matt chose to run when he didn’t have to, knowing that it wouldn’t be easy.
Forget what I just said about “a medal”. Give this kid all the medals.
All I can think is that if you never tell someone they can’t do something, maybe - just maybe - they’ll always believe they can do anything. Or at the very least, they can TRY. This kid is rad. And the kids cheering him on and encouraging him? We could learn SO MUCH from them.
